Fifty years ago, Marlborough Helicopters, then owned by Aerial Work Ltd, a local topdressing company, began operation. Its fleet consisted of two brand new Bell 47s, just about the last two ever produced. In 1979 the operation evolved and became Marlborough Helicopters Ltd, serving the Nelson and Marlborough regions.
Today, Marlborough Helicopters offers a full range of commercial helicopter services. However, they specialise in Agricultural Aviation, working with farmers, DOC, FENZ, the forestry and utilities industries.
They currently operate the largest fleet of agricultural helicopters in the top of the South. Growth over the years has seen the company operate at various times, with five Bell Jetrangers and two R22s. In addition, a Bell Longranger joined the fleet in 2014 until it was replaced with an AS350 B2.
Marlborough Helicopters strives to improve the quality of their services. They incorporate the latest technology to meet and exceed industry standards. As a result, their fleet is equipped with specialist equipment, such as hydraulic-driven spray gear and auxiliary buckets. In addition, investment in specialist, low drift, Through Valve Spray Booms allows them to spray with precision near sensitive boundaries and in higher winds than traditional equipment.
As one of the longest-serving helicopter operations in New Zealand, they are proud of the company's history and reputation. Marlborough Helicopters' three agricultural pilots have more than 25,000 flight hours experience combined. In addition, supporting them are skilled Ground crews and a comprehensive range of ground-based equipment.
Marlborough Helicopters is committed to operating safely, responsibly, and sustainably, delivering quality helicopter services to the top of the South.
