In 1999, representatives of the US Skydiving market approached the then Pacific Aerospace Corporation (PAC) wanting an enlarged version of the successful Cresco agricultural aircraft. PAC decided to embark on an ambitious development programme for a new utility machine, the final design brief calling for a strong rugged aircraft with Short Take-Off & Landing (STOL) performance for freight, passenger, agricultural and photography work. Following the exhaustive development programme little of the original Cresco remained and the new machine became the 750 XL. It was the world's first Extremely STOL (XSTOL) aircraft capable of take offs and landing in less than 800 ft (244m), setting the benchmark for a 10 seater utility aircraft.
On display at CF25 is the latest offering from NZ Aero, the Superpac 750XL-II, which has increased power along with touch screen glass cockpit flight systems and avionics. It delivers a faster, quicker to climb and a lower fuel burning aircraft, whilst retaining all the capability of the much loved 750XL. Based at Hamilton International Airport, NZ Aero are the only commercial aircraft manufacturer in New Zealand.
